Identifying Skin Types

First of all, it is important to know what your skin type is.  There are three types of skin:

  1. Oily skin (oil like shiny skin)
  2. Dry skin (dry skin)
  3. Normal skin (neither too oily nor too dry)

Skin becomes dry in the cold, and oily in heat.  This is natural, but we should know how to take care of the skin in every season.

Causes of Dry Skin

1. Poor Nutrition:

If you are not eating the right food, then the skin can also become dry.

 2. Genetics:

Sometimes this is also inherited from the family.

3. Extreme Temperature:

Too much heat or cold also affects the skin.

 4. Clogged Pores:

If even the smallest pores of the skin get clogged, then also the skin can become dry.

According to Ayurveda, when the weight of the body increases, then the skin becomes dry.

Causes of Oily Skin

When the pores of the skin open up too much and sebum (natural oil) is produced in excess, then the skin becomes oily.  This can also cause acne.

How to Treat Your Skin?

The magic of yoga!  By doing yoga, the three doshas of our body - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha come into balance.  This reduces skin problems.  Here are some easy yoga poses you can try:

1. Sarvang Asana (Head Low Pose):

This relaxes the facial muscles and improves blood circulation.

 2. Hal Asana:

This pose also increases blood flow to the face and improves digestion.

3. Jalneti:

This is another amazing technique.  This cleans your skin from inside and also protects it from pollution.

4. Pranayam:

By doing Sheetali and Sitkari pranayam the body becomes cool and the Vaat dosha remains under control.

5. Abhyangam: Magic of Massage

Abhyangam is an ayurvedic massage which is very beneficial for the skin.

How to do Abhyangam?

1. Heat coconut oil, almond oil, or sesame oil a little.

2. Massage the whole body with this oil.
